Meet Dr. Misty
SOFT is my answer to the gaps I saw in traditional therapy and the somatic approaches that came before it.
While other somatic therapies often address the nervous system or focus on movement and mindfulness, SOFT stands apart in two important ways:
First, it is rooted in the newest research on fascia memory—the science showing that trauma, stress, and embodied experiences are literally woven into our connective tissue, shaping how we feel, heal, and connect.
Second, SOFT is the only somatic method built from the ground up by a certified sex therapist, designed to address not just trauma and pain, but also sexuality, pleasure, and embodied intimacy.
SOFT is a trauma-informed, practical, and inclusive framework, welcoming all bodies and identities with a commitment to cultural humility and health equity. This isn’t another “The Body Keeps the Score” knockoff—it’s a new paradigm for understanding and healing the body’s story, especially where sex and vulnerability are concerned.
Beyond SOFT, my work includes:
Founding and directing FlowArt Therapy, a radically inclusive practice serving LGBTQIA+, neurodivergent, and marginalized communities
Hosting the Untamed Ember podcast, where we break down shame and celebrate sexual liberation
Teaching, consulting, and training professionals nationwide on trauma, sexuality, and somatic healing
As a queer clinician, trauma survivor, parent, and relentless advocate, I meet people with warmth, irreverence, and a belief that everyone deserves safety, pleasure, and authentic connection.
SOFT is more than a method—it’s a movement.
If you’re looking for something different, something that truly honors the science of fascia and the complexities of sexuality, you’re in the right place. Let’s challenge the old models, listen to your body’s wisdom, and create new possibilities for healing and pleasure.

Dr. Misty Gibson, PhD, LMHC, LCPC, CST (AASECT), RYT500
I’m Dr. Misty Gibson, founder of SOFT—Somatic Oriented Fascia Therapy—a clinician, educator, and passionate advocate for embodied, shame-free healing.
I hold a PhD in Counselor Education and Supervision, am a licensed mental health counselor (LMHC, LCPC), a certified sex therapist (AASECT), and a RYT500 yoga instructor, with over two decades of experience supporting clients through trauma recovery, sexual healing, and nervous system regulation.
At the heart of my work is the belief that true healing must include the body—especially when it comes to sexuality, intimacy, and the places we hold pain and shame.
Through years in sex therapy and trauma-focused practice, I witnessed countless clients who had insight and self-awareness, yet still struggled with chronic tension, pain, avoidance, or dread when it came to vulnerability—especially around sex, rest, and real connection. It became clear that the missing link was fascia: the connective tissue where both trauma and potential for pleasure live.
